April Update

Crewe Community Garden taking shape
Crewe Community Garden taking shape

Wow, is it April already? This garden is my view out of my office window so Spring is definitely here. Starting with Crewe Community Garden news, the theme for the Library/Literacy raised bed is a Tea Garden. We will be filling our bed with the likes of Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Bee Balm, Calendula, Sage, Holy Basil, some mints, all for making our own blends of tea. Some how a cup of tea is just the right thing to go along with reading that favorite novel. Later this year, I plan on having a class on making tea using the dried herbs to form unique tea blends. Other raised beds are starting to take shape with many veggies already planted. Veggies are important to include in our diets so the Literacy Program will be working with the Massey Cancer Center to present a program on improving nutrition. Soon, I will post a date and provide more information on that program.

Speaking of programs, we have a date set for a program being presented by Benchmark Community Bank regarding Fraud Prevention. The date will be June 17th at 1PM in the Crewe Conference Room at the Crewe Library. So mark your calendars.

Classes: Currently the English as a 2nd Language is in full swing. But anyone who wants to improve their English, is welcome to join. Classes are Mondays at the Crewe Library from 10AM to 12NOON. We also offer one on one tutoring for reading. Illiteracy continues to be a national problem as well as a local one. Another one on one class we offer is Digital Tutoring. Are you in need of brushing up on Microsoft Suite skills for your job? Or want to figure out how to manage and organize all of your pictures or how to use social media safely? We can help. Look for the Classes tab on this website for all the signup information.

Finally, we have a new Knitting and Crocheting Gathering Group that meets monthly in the Crewe Library. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 5PM. All are welcome. Bring your latest project and chat with fellow stitchers. We usually serve light refreshments. There has been some interest in offering knitting and crochet classes as well. So stay tuned as we determine plans for that.

As you can see, we have a lot going on. Check back often for more news. And don't forget to follow the Nottoway County Literacy Program Face Book page for lots of news you can use in the areas of health, nutrition, money, education and more! Thanks for visiting.
